Team GB Paralympic Triathlete Melissa Reid rides to European Silver medal in Israel.
Melissa Reid aged 21 of Porthtowan, competed on the 22nd April in Eilat, Israel in the European Triathlon Championships after a 28 hour journey. Melissa competes in the TRi6 Disability class as she is partially sighted with her guide Alice Nicholas.
This was only the pairs second outing and they secured silver medal position by loosing their lead in the last 2km by 17 seconds to the reigning world champion. While in Eilat the pair had the chance to meet up with Mark Lewarne from Redruth, Great Britain age group competitor and captain for some final training preparations.
Both Melissa and Alice (silver) and Mark (5th in age group) have secured places on the World Stage in Auckland, New Zealand in the World Triathlon Championship in October.
On return from the European championships Melissa is now trying to secure funding to enable her to get to Auckland. She is currently aided by Cycle Logic of Helston who have supplied an excellent Dawes tandem which enabled the pair to knock of 6 minutes on the bike leg from their previous race and have the fastest bike split in the female TRi 6 class.
